What is Sangju Currency?

Sangju Currency is a local currency issued by Sangju City in Gyeongsangbuk-do to promote regional economic revitalization. It is available in paper form (10,000 won and 5,000 won denominations) as well as in a rechargeable prepaid card format.

Individuals aged 19 and older may purchase the paper currency regardless of residency in Sangju City, while the card version is accessible to anyone aged 14 and above. The paper currency can be used at registered merchants within Sangju City, whereas the card can be utilized at all stores equipped with IC terminals situated in the region, including restaurants, supermarkets, hair and beauty salons, clinics, educational institutions, gas stations, among others (some specific business types may be excluded).

Benefits of Sangju Currency

Sangju Currency offers discount benefits upon purchase or recharge, and a 30% tax deduction benefit is automatically applied during year-end tax settlement.

Convenient Card Issuance and Usage

The Sangju Currency card can be applied for directly through a mobile app without the need to visit a bank or undergo complex account opening procedures. Additionally, users can easily recharge their cards through the app and check their balances and transaction histories.

The operation of the Sangju Currency initiative is managed by KIS Information & Communications.
