MyObservatory (我的天文台) 5.12.2

The "MyObservatory" app is a popular mobile weather application that offers personalized weather services. It provides up-to-date weather information such as temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, wind direction, and speed. Users can access weather photographs taken from nearby weather stations at their current location, a specified location, or selected weather stations. Weather photos are updated every 5 minutes and rainfall data is updated every 15 minutes. Other data is updated every 10 minutes, with the update time displayed at the bottom of the app's front page.

There are several points to note:

1. In the "My Location Settings," users can choose to use the automatic location service provided by their smartphone or manually designate their location on the map. The selected location will be displayed on the main page and in "My Weather Report." If the user's location cannot be found, the app will display the last successfully found location or "Hong Kong Observatory." It's important to note that the meteorological data displayed for "My Location" or any added stations is from nearby weather stations and may not necessarily be from the same region. If meteorological data is not available from nearby stations, data from other meteorological stations such as the Observatory headquarters, King's Park, and Star Ferry will be used instead. In this case, a ▲ symbol will appear to indicate the use of alternate data.
2. The app's notification service, which includes weather warnings, location-specific heavy rain information, and location-based rain and lightning forecasts, relies on Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). However, the Hong Kong Observatory cannot guarantee the successful or timely reception of push notifications via the app. Users should not rely solely on the app for receiving important weather information. Depending on factors such as network usage and the quality of a user's mobile phone connection, it may take 5 to 20 minutes or even longer for the app to receive a notification after it is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.
3. While the "MyObservatory" app is free to use, please note that users may be charged by their mobile network service provider for data usage. These charges can be quite expensive when roaming. To avoid unexpected charges, users should ensure that "Data Roaming" is disabled in the settings of their mobile devices.
4. Due to differences in topography, altitude, and the error in estimated positions from mobile devices, users should be aware that weather information displayed on the app may differ from actual conditions when using the "MyObservatory" app.
5. The clock displayed on the main page of the app is synchronized automatically with the Observatory's Internet Time Server and may not match the time displayed on a user's smartphone.
6. Using the location-based rain and lightning forecast notification and location-specific heavy rain notification may slightly increase battery usage and data download. To conserve battery life, users may choose to enable these features during rainy days or before outdoor activities and disable them during sunny days or after finishing outdoor activities.
7. To ensure that users receive important weather information such as weather warnings, special weather tips, and location-based rain and lightning forecasts, the "MyObservatory" app will automatically notify users based on their settings.
8. The app provides a link for users to browse the Observatory's Facebook Page. Users may choose to log in to their own Facebook accounts to access additional features. Users should pay attention to any notes provided on the Facebook Page and review the privacy policies of the Facebook platform.
