Introduction The Chinese translation of the Quran spans nearly three centuries, from sporadic excerpts in the Ming and Qing dynasties to complete translations in the early 20th century. There have been over ten translations from Iron Zheng's first complete translation to later versions, all translations of the original Quran. While some translations include brief footnotes on individual sentences and verses, there hasn't been a complete annotated version published. In recent years, several annotated versions have emerged, with some Arabic commentary translated verbatim providing authoritative and reliable Quranic annotations helpful for Chinese Muslims to understand the Quran. The value and significance of any scholar-authored Quranic annotations throughout history lie in assisting the target readership in accurately grasping the meanings of the scripture, comprehensively understanding the overall direction of revelation, inspiring contemplation on life values and meanings guided by divine revelations, anticipating and addressing various confusions and questions arising within different cultural contexts. Most annotation works are presumed to possess these attributes. Meeting the demands of Quranic annotation requires that while translating Arabic or other language commentaries, although it may aid to some extent in elucidating interpretations, it cannot fundamentally resolve issues. Even modern or contemporary foreign-language Quranic annotations struggle to pinpoint differences in Chinese readers' thought processes and the diversity of thought issues within a particular context, let alone commentaries from centuries ago. Henceforth, the author believes it is necessary to produce a comprehensive Chinese Quranic annotation. Throughout the writing process, significant reference was made to Arabic original commentaries, particularly early authentic Islamic annotations. Ensuring strict adherence to the original intent of scripture interpretation, while empathizing with ordinary Chinese readers' perspectives, deliberated on potential difficulties and uncertainties they might face when studying the Quran. Choosing suitable expression methods and identifying key and difficult points accordingly. Features of this annotation: Each chapter starts with an "Introduction" detailing the origin of the chapter name, historical background, and a brief summary of content. Scripture within each chapter is divided into relatively independent paragraphs, with each paragraph assigned a title; logical connections between paragraphs are indicated by "Hints," revealing subtle "ideological mainlines" between scriptures not easily noticeable. Upon reading a chapter or the entire Quran, readers can perceive a methodical and logically rigorous ideological system rather than isolated verses with no relation. Interpretation is provided per chapter section, explaining both individual meanings of verses and elucidating collective connections between verses; annotation sequences bear identical numbering to annotated scriptural verse numbers. Suitable for readers with intermediate to advanced Chinese proficiency levels.
