Electronic Mother and Child Health App (E-MCH)

This mobile application is a digitalized version of the paper Mother and Child Health Handbook distributed to all Palestine refugee mothers attending UNRWA health centers. The application was jointly developed by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and is now designated as the Electronic Mother and Child Health Booklet (E-MCH). This application was developed to provide access to electronic maternal and child healthcare information stored in UNRWA’s electronic health system. Users can view their records and the records of their children, including medical, nursing, or other professional healthcare advice, diagnoses, preventive services, and results of diagnostic services. Additionally, it aims to educate users on health issues important for themselves and their children.

This customized interactive mobile application for UNRWA Palestine refugee mothers boasts the following main features:

• It features an Arabic interface for easy use by all mothers in the target population.
• The application connects to UNRWA’s e-health system, allowing each mother to access her and her children's electronic medical files.
• It encompasses all information found in the hard copy of the MCH handbook, providing users with online access to updated electronic health records that can also be accessed offline later.
• It enables mothers to access their medical records and those of their children, staying updated on their medical histories.
• All health information and medical record content are securely stored on UNRWA servers via the e-health system and can only be modified by authorized healthcare providers using this system.
• With graphics, illustrations, and regularly updated content, users are encouraged to engage with their health information.
• The app sends push notifications to mothers' smartphones, including appointment alerts, text messages, and other relevant information.
• The application functions offline and updates data immediately when reconnected to the internet.
• The health education content is comprehensive and can be updated and expanded by authorized supervisors of the MCH program as necessary.
• AdMob (Mobile Ads Feature) seamlessly integrates ads/awareness messages and resources into the app for non-commercial purposes using top mobile ad providers to serve user needs.
