Zhao Mengfu (1254 October 20 [1] - July 30, 1322 [1]), styled Zi'ang, was a Han Chinese, known as Songxuedaoren, also known as Shuijingongdaoren, and Oubo. He was from Wuxing (now Huzhou, Zhejiang), born into a prominent family with ancestry tracing back to Emperor Taizu of the Song Dynasty. Zhao was a renowned calligrapher, painter, and poet during the early Yuan Dynasty. His remarkable achievements in calligraphy and painting innovated the new painting style of the Yuan Dynasty and earned him the title of "First among Yuan Artists." Zhao was skilled in seal script, clerical script, regular script, running script, and cursive script, particularly excelling in regular and running scripts. His calligraphic style was elegant and refined, with well-structured characters and mature brush techniques, creating the "Zhao Style" calligraphy. Zhao Mengfu, along with Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, and Liu Gongquan are collectively known as the "Four Great Masters of Regular Script."
